Its been a lovely year at kids club sorry not had a lot of time to do much blogging on here this last few months, due to time and personal reasons. Some of our lovely children moved to high school last September but we stay in touch. The been to see us after school finishes which is nice.

We have also gained some lovely new children in our group.

Kids club has been busy over the last few months we have had lots of children staying. Mrs Chandler has said I can give the children a bit more freedom during Kids Club making it a bit of a youth club for the older children which is nice.

We also have new helper Charlotte who has been brilliant over the last few months she is a dab hand at craft. January will see another new helper joining us. Angela who is a special needs lady will start to help out which I am so looking forward to. Anyway I will try and blog a bit more often during the coming months. Llangedwyn School is still thriving as always.

Wacky Race Night

WOW ! what a fun night we had Wacky Races :- piggyback racing, crab crawl, sack race, three legged races, backwards racing, frog race, balancing water on your head race ( who had the most water at the finish ! who was very wet ! ) and towards the end wacky scooter races around the school. We had a great time ! At the interval for a rest the children tucked into hot dogs. What a wonderful night big thank you to all the helpers that came in to help. Goodbye Mr Parkinson - Happy Retirement

The last day of school was a mixture of sadness and excitement. Sadness due to the fact our headmaster was leaving. Mr Parkinson has been at the school for 13 yrs. My own children have been attending Llangedwyn since he was appointed all those years ago. The excitement was everyone was determined to give him a really good send off. All the staff and children went on a mystery trip just before dinner. No one new were we were going except the two whom had organised the trip. We kept on guessing as the bus we were on drove around the Welsh and Shropshire lane ? After a good drive we eventually ended up at McDonald's in Chirk. The children were delighted. Here we had a Ronald McDonald Party. After we headed back to school were whilst we were away a secret party had been set up. For once Mr Parkinson was speechless. As the afternoon and early evening went on face's from the past began to turn up. There was a presentation and short speech ( but no raffle ) !!!. The day had gone well. It is the end of an era for the small school but also the start of a new future which we are all looking forward to. With a warm welcome to our new head Sarah Candler.

Kids Club Recipes

Chocolate Refridgerator Cake :- 8 oz Digestive Bisuits 4 oz Butter 4 oz Sugar 3 tbl Cocoa Powder 1 Egg Method - Melt butter and sugar add cocoa powder remove from heat add beaten egg mix in crushed biscuits and put into greased tin place in frigde for about 2 hrs

Plain Biscuits :-

250g butter 140g sugar 1 egg yolk 2 tbps Vanilla Essence 300 g Plain Flour

Cream the butter and sugar together add egg yolk and vanilla essence and stir add flour and mix until it becomes a dough roll out until about 1 cm thick and cut into shapes

cook in oven 180 C until colour turns slightly brown

allow to cool on a rack

Above are some of the photo's taken Spring Term 2011. Sorry this blog hasn't been updated lately just been so busy ! We have done lots of things playing games inside and outside. We have cooked during some of the sessions. We have made things to take home and go on the wall.

We have also made quite a lot of Jewellery which were keeping aside for time being.

This term we have been lucky enough to have extra help. Charlotte is a lovely young girl who is with us to gain work experience. She is an excellent worker full of idea's. Thanks to Charlotte for joining our team.

Back to School to Week 17

Over the last few weeks we have be lucky to have a young girl training with us. Charlotte has become a valued member of our team. She is excellent with the children and has come up with some really good ideas. She has a gift for origami and can transform a piece of paper into many interesting things.
During the last few weeks the children have been able to go outside a bit. As a group the children have been interacting with each other playing games outside. The fresh air has been welcoming.
We have also done a range of activities inside making beaded bracelet`s, calenders, balloon rice balls and much more.
The children have had computer time, played imagination role play and games like snakes and ladders and k - plunk. Playing with puzzles has also been enjoyed
We have done about Chinese New Year. Which is the year of the rabbit.
Later in the session the children again join in with story time and games. We have also done a range of cooking activity's with the children, from making Jelly to chocolate cake. They both went down well in many ways.

Winter Term 2010 - New School Year Week 1 - Week 14

Winter Term has been action packed. At times the weather has not been good with snow covering the ground on quite a few occasions during this term.
The children have enjoyed days off because of the snow and days at school in the snow.
Kids club has been busy we have made many things over the last few weeks . We have also played many games, dug in the snow and created a number of crafts.
Before breaking up for Christmas we held a party which was great fun we had a packed club. The children tucked in to a lovely Christmas party tea before being entertained with the usual party games. We like to recreate the old fashioned party games like pass the parcel ans musical chairs.
The term went fairly quickly. At the end we all enjoyed a trip to the theatre to watch the wok n roll panto Aladdin. This panto was held at the theatre Clwyd in Mold.
The children also entertained us with the usual nativity play and candle light service held in church.

New School Year Sept To Wk 5

Welcome Back To School Kids

Kids club has been busy over the last few weeks since we`ve been back. We have many new little people in our club which is keeping us very busy.

We have played outside alot making the most of the light nights and the weather. The children have enjoyed playing on the new scooters and other wheeled toys we have.

We have made a display for the wall an autum themed display with farm animals and other wildlife and birds it is still in the process of being completed.

The other board we have now displays the Halloween pictures the children have completed, this includes witch`s. Dracular and cats on broomsticks. We will be off on half term Halloween week so our disco and theme have started early. Halloween is a very popular theme with the children with lots of things to so and create.

We have also played games altogether and had sing songs which is fun with all the children interacting with each other.

We have also been using the bus, we have been given some new games and puzzles which our in the bus for us to use.

Over all kids club has been fun, Sarah and I our enjoying getting to no the new children whom have come to join in the fun.

Goodbye To Year 6

We would like to say our goodbyes to our year 6 children and wish them all the very best in high school.

This year this includes my own son.

This is a start of a new big adventure in their lives.

We have enjoyed having them in our club over the years.

We going to miss you all loads.

Games Cooking & Cycles Up to Week 36

The last few weeks have flown by. We have been given a mountain bike for the older children. To solve the problem of them all arguing to have a go I take a stop watch out and time them every 5 Min's so they can swap and all have a go, this tends to work well.

We are in need of another bike and some bike helmets if anyone has any to spare.

Also during the last few weeks in the club we have made some beautiful items with the iron together beads.
We have also watched DVDs`s inc Top Gear for the boys, Finding Nemo and the old school plays,
Having new PC`s as also given us the chance to go back on the computers. We have also played many out door games using the Sainsbury active and games like football, rounders and leg it cricket.
Other balls games include headers and catch, with the added kick and punch which confuses me even more having to remember they mean the opposite ie headers means they have to catch, catch means they have to head ect. This is a very popular game which most of the children join in.
We have also played Simon says, charades and the ship game. This is another popular game especially in the adventure playground were we use the playground props ie climb the rigging (up the cargo net) walk the plank ( balance along the tree trunks ) it a fun came outside.
We took the younger children on a bear hunt recently as the older boys were playing football, we wandered around the playing field on out hunt wading through the mud, chopping down the long grass, swimming the river and much more till we found the bear and had to run back through everything we had gone through on the way to find the bear. The younger children enjoy this game, it keeps them away from the football at a safe distance but we can also keep a watchful eyes on the older boys as they play.
We have also cooked recipe below and bought a floor game of Snakes and Ladders.

Ingredients
Large bag of Marshmallows
Rice Crispys
Milk Chocolate

Method
Melt the marshmallows in a microwave or pan.
Stir in sufficient Rice Crispys to be coated by the marshmallow.
Pour into a lightly greased square tin to give a depth of about 1 to 1.5 cms. Leave to set.
Melt the chocolate and pour over the marshmallow mixture, or melt the chocolate in with the marshmallows
When set cut into squares and enjoy.

It has been a busy couple of weeks at kids club. We have played many games. Wk 31, we listened to the England game and did football world cup related activities. We set up dribble courses and had a goal shoot out.
The second week again we played ball games, some tennis. We also played a lot of out door games. Most of the children joined in they were given a choice though. They played What`s the time Mr Wolf, the ship game, charades and doctor doctor.
During Free play they played with the bicycles and other our door toys, as you can see from some of the photo`s below the pop up tents proved a popular activity.
These last two weeks have gone extremely fast.

KS1 Toy Time & Work Sheets WK 31

This week was a strange week without KS2 about.
KS2 are on a trip to pro - active in Llangollen.
As a treat earlier in the week the older children were allowed to watch a DVD on the whiteboard this turns Llangedwyn School into a giant cinema. The kids had a great time.
Most of the week KS1 was only present. The children decided they wanted to play on the bicycle`s and other outdoor play toys for part of the session.
Armed with a stop watch so each child got a turn on the toy they wanted off they went. Riding around the school grounds. Every 5 minutes on the stop watch, I lined them all up and let one child in turn choose which toy they wanted to ride on.
It worked well and stopped any chance for them to bicker.
Inside we they had work sheets relating to summer this week. Including sea side mazes and cross words. There were also different colouring in sheet for them to choose from.
Another activity was to make up different ice creams they did this by drawing, colouring and then cutting out different ice cream cones and tubs and topping them up with different coloured ice creams. The ice creams also had flakes and fruit to add.
Each Ice cream could be very different.
Next week is the start of the Football World Cup. So next weeks Kids Club will be themed on this.

Busy Weeks Up To Wk 30

Over the last few weeks we have done lots of things. With the weather being nice we have played outside quite a lot.
The smaller children have played on bike and other outside toys.
We have played rounder`s, tennis, football and leg it cricket.
We have also played lots of other ball style games.
The children have played on the roller boards which saw them sliding down the ramps of the Ariel runway. The children have also had fun playing on the adventure playground and game of hide and seek.
We have play charades and Simon says.
We have only been inside for a short time, The children have coloured in and played with the play mobile. They also drew maps lord of the rings style. ( one will be pictured above shortly )
We also made lovely flapjacks recipe below :-

Ingredients

Porridge (chopped rolled) oats 125 g

Rolled oats 125 g

Margarine 150 g

Golden syrup 75 g

Sugar 75 g

Detailed Instructions for Chewy Flapjack

Put the margarine, sugar & golden syrup in saucepan (or microwaveable bowl if using a microwave oven) and heat until it is all liquid.

Meanwhile line the baking tin with greaseproof paper. Mix all the oats into the liquid. Put the mixture into the baking tin & press flat.

Bake at 175 deg C (Gas Mark 4) for 25 to 30 minutes.

Warning: the timing is tolerant but accuracy in temperature is critical.

Slice into 8 fingers (by cutting into half along the perpendicular bisector of two sides and into quarters perpendicular to the first cut) before it sets but leave in place in tin.

Leave to cool and set.

Crunchy Flapjack The recipe is identical to chewy version but cook at 15 deg (one Gas Mark) hotter.

This week was a bit drizzly. The older boys enjoyed a Top Gear night. Drawing cars and watching a Top Gear DVD on the white board. Night at the flicks is a very popular night at kids club as the school comes alive like the cinema.
The younger girls enjoyed colouring fairy`s of all kinds. We also had the usual fruit, toast and squash.

With the sun out, it was hard to keep the kids in doors. We headed outside for most of these sessions.
We used the Sainsbury`s active kids voucher box's obtained by the school the years before. We also got the basket ball hoop out. The children had a fantastic time, must admit Sarah and I had a good time too.
Later in the sessions we played on the playground were the kids used the mini go karts to slide down the ramps.
Lets hope the sun keeps shining so we can carry on our outside fun and games.

Easter Egg Hunt Week 23

This week we had a Easter egg hunt, as it rained Mr Parkinson hid the eggs around the school. The children were each given a draw ticket. They had to find the correct numbered egg that matched there ticket.

We also had a 2ND Easter Egg hunt on the last day as we had different children who had missed the first hunt. This hunt was held outside. Again eggs were hidden with numbers on the children had to match them.

The children also participated in the Easter additives that had carried on from last week.

On the last day before breaking up for Easter we all has a treat. We made pizza from pizza bases, the children added there own toppings. The children also played some competitions to won Easter Eggs as a prize musical chairs and musical bumps. All the children attending kids club received an Easter Egg.

This has been a wonderful term, we are now looking to next term. With the weather becoming brighter we look forward to having the children outside in the fresh air more.

This week we start are Easter activities. We had lots to do. We made a Easter display for the wall, this had chicks hatching from eggs on and woolly sheep.

The children also made Easter cards. The older children tackled word searches and other Easter related puzzles.

Again we played outside for sometime, we are trying to let the children out twice to play with the night becoming brighter. They all enjoy being outside.

Mothers Day Crafts Week 21

This week at kids club the children participated in mothers day activities. We made cards and pictures for the mums. The children also played outside as the nights are now getting lighter.

The children also choose activities they would like to do IE computer`s, play mobile, jigsaws and games. They also play with Lego.

This week at kids club we started a wall display. The new display has a spring / Easter theme. The display isn't quite finished, it has a sheep surrounded by grass and chicks hatching from eggs. It is quite an effective display. Well done to all the children that have helped with the display so far. With the weather being nice we played outside quite a lot.

We also carried on with our mother`s day quest making items for the children to take home next week for the lucky mum. All will be revealed next week.

Also this week we had circle time, Mr Parkinson joined us for a discussion. We wanted to no the children`s views on the club, what they would like to do whilst in our care etc. We are hoping some of their ideas can be met.

Kids club is not school it is a fun club were we will do our best to meet the children's needs and ideas.

The Story Of The Chinese Zodiac

Many people have wondered over the years how it was that the rat, the smallest of all the creatures, was given the honour of having the first year of the Chinese Zodiac named after him. this is the story I have heard.

A very long time ago, the Jade Emperor, who ruled the heavens of China, sent a message to all the animals asking them to come together so that he could give each of the a year, which would make it easier for the people of China to keep track of time. The cat and the rat were good friends and decided to travel to meet the Jade Emperor together,

When it came time to leave, however the cat was taking a nap. The rat, realising that he would have to use all his cunning to get noticed the Jade Emperor, left his friend sleeping, and set off on his own. This is why there is no year named after the cat, and why cats have hated rats ever since.

When the rat arrive, the Jade Emperor welcomed him and the other animals and told that them they should all take part in a swimming race. once again, the rat realised that he would have to be clever if he wanted to win the race. He found the largest, strongest animal, which was the ox, and pleaded with him to let him ride on its head. The ox was kind and strong, and agreed that they would swim across together. The rat travelled safely across the river on the ox`s back, but , just before they reached the other side, climbed over the ox`s head, jumped onto land, ans reached the finish line first. The rat had proved its cunning, and the Jade Emperor named the first year the rat and the second year the ox.

This week in kids Club we concentrated on our African book`s These are books that have been created by the children to send to Africa.They have made them themselves via drawing, Sticking, computers and writing.

After a very snowing start to the year we finally manged to get into school for a few sessions of kid`s club.
During the sessions we made kites, chalk pictures of snowy scenes. We coloured in pictures of squirrels`s and snowy owls.
We have had cross words and different types of puzzles to complete. This relate to themes of the time of the year which include, Chinese New Year, Burn`s Night, Up and coming Pancake day and also Valentines.
We have also looked at the Chinese zodiac. Checking out which Chinese year we were born in.

Most of the children are creating picture book which are going to be sent to Africa for under privileged children. These are still to be completed.

The younger children have also been playing with the play mobile, Sickle bricks and Tracey Island. We have also played outside, indoor games and on the computer`s

I am also pleased to announce that 5 of our children have been chosen to have there afterschoolclub.net competition pictures published in the up and coming book Under the Sea.

Overall; it has been a slow start to the year. We have lots of Idea`s for after school club for the next few months.

Crazy Creature Competition 2009

Some time ago some of our pupils entered a competition run by www.afterschoolclub.net . The children had to draw a crazy creature. Two of our girls picture`s were chosen for the book .

Christmas Fun Wk 14

This week kids club went very quickly.We did some free play out side in the adventure play ground. We came in as it got dark.
Inside the children enjoyed Christmas related activities. These included colouring, word search and other paper puzzles. Some children played Christmas computer games.
We also had a treat of sausage hot dogs.
The children also had a game of Britain`s Got Talent. The children really enjoy this. We have 3 judges. All of the children perform an act. The little ones always amaze me as they do some very good break dancing.
The end session saw the children taking home a Christmas present.

Christmas Panto Trip Robin Hood And The Babes In The Wood

The children had a wonderful trip this week to see Theatre Clwyd Christmas Panto, Robing Hood And The Babes In The Wood.

This soul searching panto features Rock N Roll music from multi talented actors and actresses. They not only act but they play the instruments and sing. Everyone joins in the fun clapping along to the songs. It`s a real fun panto.

The children had lolly ices and ice cream at the interval.

Mr Parkinson was picked on by Nellie Night Nurse. As usual he was a terrific sport they couldn't`t have picked on a better person.

All to soon it was over for another year the children were tired as we headed home looking out for the fairy lights along the way. We all had a wonderful time at this years panto.

Under The Sea Competition Wk 13

Some of the children this week decided to enter the Under the Sea competition. They had to design / create a picture representing under the sea. They children worked hard on their pictures. Some are pictured above. It was entered b y 4 yr old`s to 11 yr old`s both KS1 & KS2

Candle Light Carol Service Wk 13

Llangedwyn School Candle Light Carol Service

This week the children performed a candle light service at St Cedwyn`s Church. The church was lite only by candle light.

It started with the Drummer Boy boy with my son playing the drum. The older children walked up the aisle with candle`s in hand.

Reading`s were read out by staff and children. Hymns were sang which included Drummer Boy as an opening Song and the songs listed below.

During the service the children played musical instrument to some of the hymns. KS1 performed the Nativity play. They were dressed up in the usual costumes. They did so very well.

Getting Ready For Christmas Wk 13

This week was Christmas week. The children designed pictures for the wall. Some of the children created there own design T towels some of these can be seen below.
In free time the children played on the computers, had outside fun and some chose to play with play mobile, games or puzzles. The week went very quickly.

Build Up To Our Christmas Fayre Wk 12

This week saw us building up to our school`s Christmas fayre. The children busied themselves making things to sell. We had quite a few items by now including Christmas glitter decorations, hand mad jewels, painted pot money boxes and also chocolate covered rice crispy cakes. We had great fun making the rice crispy cakes cover in dairy milk chocolate.

The children also made up games guess how many lolly pop sticks are in the tub. We also had sweets and crisps to sell that had been left over from our recent Halloween party.

All the activities took place on the first two sessions. We also played outside this week.

We played a game of silly sentences along with Mr Parkinson one night which was such a giggle.

Soon the big day arrived for the fayre. The children were very excited. The older children set up whilst the younger children had cinema night. They watched Disney`s Monster`s Inc on the white board. Using the white board is brilliant as it creates a cinema effect. We also gave the children tea as kids club ran straight through till the mums and dads came to the Christmas fayre to collect there children.

Kids club stall looked really good and the children looked after it themselves with little help form myself. Well done boys and girls. The money raised will go towards a Christmas party we are planning for the last week in school.

The Christmas fayre was very well attended. Everyone connected with the school was very pleased.

Christmas Fair Craft Week Wk 11

This week again we concentrated on making things for the school`s forth coming Christmas fair. The children, made more jewellery. We also make hanging decorations for the Christmas tree`s.

The rain stopped so we also had a play outside.

We all had a great time this week.

The last few weeks have pasted very quickly. The children have had a great time creating there own designs and are looking forward to there achievements been put on the stall to sell to raise money for our club.

Creative Week Tea Towels & Jewelery Wk 10

This week was a raining week. The children created some wonderful designs on blank tea towels using fabric paints. We also made jewelery hopefully this will be sold at the forth coming craft fair.

The children managed to play out side one day when the rain seemed to stop for 1/2 hour. We also had a pasta tea this week.

This week proved very successful.

Remembrance Week Wk 9

This week was remembrance week. The children worked on work sheets associated with remembrance week. They coloured in pictures, did word searches, puzzles and cut out and stuck poppies and little army men together.

The older children created projects and looked up information on the computers.

We played out side a little. We also had games such as limbo, Simon says and charades.

One night we had a Britain has got talent contest which proved popular and such fun. Some of the act were really good especially the acts of the smaller children.

The children also played hands on with play mobile ect.

One rainy night we decided to watch the film Heidi as a treat.

Bonfire Night Party Fireworks Wk 8

What a week at kids club, the children and staff had a fantastic time. We played outside only briefly this week as the weather was really bad Rain Rain and more Rain.
With being inside this week we did lots of different things.
My son and I visited the national trust property Chirk Castle on Halloween. I manged to pick up quite a few work sheets. colouring picture`s and patterns for hats, masks and bat wristbands at the castle. The staff gave me extra for kid`s club which was really good of them.
On our first session the children set to work colouring cutting out and backing on to card.
We also did some really good bonfire and fireworks picture`s ( pictured below ) These were done with chalk we used them for a display on our kid`s club wall. We were really please with these.
Other activities the children played on computer`s. The blog below is of an aye aye, this was an excellent project for one of the children. We played with the games IE operation and the fuzzy felt.
We also had fun playing charade`s, Simon says and the limbo game ( how low can you go under the rope ) this was real fun and all the children joined in the fun.
The children were also allowed to have free time, most settled down with there library books.
Bonfire night was a special treat, the children were given hot dog`s on buns which as you can see they went down a treat. As it got dark we headed outside to light some sparkler`s, The older children had a great time, whilst the younger ones who wanted a go were supervised on a one to one basis. Overall this was a wonderful week at kid`s club which we all enjoyed both children and staff. Below are some of the wonderful photogrpahs we have taken.

Aye Aye - A Strange Creature I Discoverd By Pupil

This half term I discovered a really strange creature. I have typed out a factfile for this creature.

Aye ayes are dark brown or black and have a big bushy tail larger than its body. They also have big eyes, slender fingers and large sensative ears. Aye ayes have pointed claws on there fingers and toes exept for there aposable big toes which enable them to dangle on branches.

Habitat

An aye aye is a type of primate that lives on the east coast of madagascar. The aye ayes natural habbitat is the rainforest or deciduous forest. The most common is the rainforest aye aye that lives high in the trees about 700 meters in altitude. They build nests in the forks of trees. The aye ayes sleep during the day and come out at night which means they are nocturnal.

Diet

The aye ayes commanly eats nuts, grubs, fruit, necter, seeds and fungi. Sometimes if aye ayes are lucky they steal lots of food from villages. Aye ayes bang on tree trunks and branches 8 times per second and listen to the echo. when they ve done that they make a hole in the tree to grab grubs and insects from inside.

The aye aye is an indanjered species not just because it hbbitat is beind destroyed, but also native superstition. Besides being a nuicense in villages, ancient malagasy legened said that the aye aye was the symbol of death.

Icing The Cakes Wk 7

This week in kids club we made Halloween masks. Some of the older children coloured in Egyptian scrolls made from bamboo. We photo copied some of them for the younger children as the bamboo ones were bought for the older children.

We also decorated cakes Halloween style the children got to take home at least 2 they had decorated themselves. They really enjoyed this activity sticking on chocolate pieces, icing, jelly tots and smarties.

We played outside making the most of the late nights. The children also had free time on the computers.

Skimming Stones & Halloween Disco Projects Wk 6

This week at kids club we had the pleasure of Mr Parkinson joining us for a hour or so. We headed down to the river crossing the stiles and fields. At the rivers edge Mr Parkinson showed the children how to skim stones across the river. He was very good I counted six skims with one stone. At this part of the river we also showed the children how high the river gets when the flood waters come, by locating the drift wood and other items high above our heads within the trees. Quite a scary thought with the river being so shallow at present.

We also went on a conker walk this week, plus a walk around the mill.

Games were another event this week the children love to play the ship game. We play this on the adventure play ground using the different parts of the playground as different parts of the ship ie climb the rigging - the cargo net, walk the plank - the balance beam tree trunk.

With the weather being so nice we stayed outside most of the time. Making the most of it before the dark nights draw in.

Inside activities included computers and the children finishing off there games for this weeks Halloween party. Pin the wart on the Witch, Pin the fly on the spider and pin the worm on the pumpkin. All in all the children did very well with these games. Well done kids.

Finishing Our Games For Halloween & Llangedwyn Mill WK 5

Week 5 again went so very quickly at kids club. We played outside with the weather being nice and with the nights being still light. Inside activities included finishing off the the games for the up and coming Halloween party. We still have some work to do on them for next week. The older children found and copied jokes. The also make some fantastic posters to put up at the event. We were so very please with these. When all the Halloween party work is done next week I will take some photographs to put on this blog.

This week we also went on one of our

healthy walks first we stopped at

Llangedwyn Mill and had a look at the
river. We then headed up the road and walked across the bridge before coming back down the lane and heading onto the footpath across the fields. The children love the walks. After being in school all day it is good to get them outside into the fresh air. Walking is also good for them. We walked along the path till we got to the old wooded area. Here the children had a great time picking up conkers. We found quite a lot some big ones and some quite small. Before long as time passed awe headed back to school for the usual toast and fruit treat. The children also had free time to play on the computers. Again the week went really fast.

Children In Africa & We Joined The Library Wk 4

What a busy week in kids club. The sessions passed very quickly.
This week we joined the library. Some of the children we had during this session chose some books from the mobile library that's comes around the villages. The librarian has promised he will have some extra books on for next time as he wasn't ready to be invaded by kids club. The library books will be kept in school and the children can read them during the sessions.
Some of the children decided to create personal topics so they chose books from the library accordingly to help them with information they needed for there chosen topic.

Another project we got involved with this week was communicating with children in Africa. The children created pictures, sent letters and also created a photo album. We also marked ourselves on a map to show the children in Africa were in the UK we come from. This project went really well with every child contributing to the package that will be sent. This will be an on going project to help under privilege children in the African villages.

Also in kids club we played lots of games outside including sardines, Simon says and the very popular ship game.

Each day weather permitting we are going on healthy walks. if the group is manageable we go across the fields etc but if there are a lot of children we have taken to walking around the playing field 3 times. I am told this makes a mile.

Some of the football boys tend to jog around. Even the smallest children take part in this exercise routine. After being in school all day both Sarah and I like to give the children plenty of exercise. Fruit, juice and toast were also on offer as usual for the children to keep their hunger at bay till tea time. After all that walking they deserved it.

In free time the children tend to like playing on the computers.
I just cant believe how fast the session and days pasted by. Looking forward to working with our wonderful children again next week

Making Up Games & Healthy Walk Wk 3

Week 3 in Kids club saw us creating some games and decorations for the forth coming Halloween Party near the end of term.

I draw out a witches face and the children helped to colour it in and decorate. The project is not finished yet but hopefully will be by the end of next week. The decorated witches face will be for a party game place the wart on the witch. Some of the boys made hanging spider decorations.

Also this week the children did activities on the computers both as a project with also some free time included.

With the weather being so nice we are making the most of it. We spend some time outside. We took the children on 2 healthy walks around Llangedwyn this week. One walk we went down to the river and around the mill. The second walk took us across the foot paths taking in the fresh air and views of the valley around us. We came across sheep and lots of pheasants. Following the foot path, over stiles and through gates. The children really seemed to enjoy the walk. We also came across some conkers under a very old conker tree.

We also had the usual fruit and toast at snake time. This week at kids club went very fast indeed.

Outside Play Football & Felt Wk 2

Week 2 at kids club saw us spending much of our time outside. With the weather being so nice we took advantage of this before the nights start to close in for the forth coming winter.
The boys played with the new footballs we have purchased recently.
They practiced there skills using the goal posts in the field.
The younger girls played with the new felt creative picture boards we have also purchased.
Once inside the most of the boys wanted to play on the computers. The smaller children entertained them selves playing traditional games such as marble run and operation.
During this week I spoke to each child individually to see if there was anything they would particularly like to do after all it is there club and I believe they should be able to have choice.
Most came up with ideas that are possible to achieve and hopefully we will have the funding to enable us to proceed with there ideas and requests.
We look fwd to the coming weeks with a fantastic bunch of children within our club.

New School Year Week 1 Busy Bee`s

Week one of the new school year saw us with many new faces in the club. The club was also full.

we had children from age 4 yrs to 11 yrs.

We played outside alot with the weather being so nice. Inside activities included toast and the usual snacks.

The younger children enjoyed playing with the marble run, board games and sickle bricks. The older children enjoyed playing on the school computers.

The sessions went very quickly this week due to us being very busy with the tiny tots.

We look forward to the coming weeks to get to know the new children that now attend kids club.

We start the term off with a very healthy club. We completed one session last week. During the session the staff and I completed the mass of paperwork needed to re enrol the children for the forth coming school year.

So please all mums and dads can we have the forms back as soon as possible to up date our records.

We are also please to welcome many new members into Kids Club. Over the next few weeks it may be possible that the children have to be booked in as on some days we may be near the numbers allowed. Tennis & Play Week Wk 37

The last week of kids club went very quickly. We played outside when it was sunny. The kids enjoyed playing bat and ball games. The older boys played tennis. As always we joined in fairly We were fairly tired by the end of the session.

They also played on Llangedwyn School`s fantastic playground. We also had a game of leg it cricket.

Inside we coloured, traced pictures and played on the computers.

We had a cinema event on the last day with a special treat of pasta for snack. The children ate the pasta with a range of toppings which included cheese, tuna, sweetcorn and tomato.

In all both teams played a total of 8 games, 4 games for each team. They did extremely well and all received a medal at the end.

Kids Club End Of Term Disco July 09

What a night. We all had a fantastic time.

The night went very well. With load music, prize raffle, selling of sweets, crisps and an open bar for the mums and dads. We played a few party games. Many kids attended of all ages from tiny tots to high school teens. It was a night enjoyed by all ages.

They danced to all kinds of music from party pop songs to Micheal Jackson Thriller.

This week we are theme was pirates which was appropriate due to the school play being called Long John`s Liver ?

After playing out side the children created pirate flags and pictures to be displayed on the wall.

A poem was written out about a pirate also. The children then went on the computers to look up information and to play pirate related games. It was a fun time at kids club and the children worked hard.

Hot & Bothered Wk 35

This week at Kids club we were all hot and bothered at times. We spent some time outside and in either way we were still all hot.

The boys have another competition looming.They were keen to practice there football as they always are.

Above pictures of our times outside. The girls always enjoy skipping and play horses and ponies during there free time. The also practiced there sports night races.

With it being so hot we had the fans on in school but we were still cooking. The children played inside colouring pictures for the wall. Playing on the computers and playing traditional games such as operation, guess who and four in a row.

Thursday saw us with over half the school staying for kids club. We practiced sports night games, and of course the boys agin played football. For tea the children ate hot dog sausages and chips.

After tea we all headed out side again into the shade this time. Under the tree the children were given a lolly ice. We then played a game of charades. This was fun as there were lots of us.The children really enjoyed this activity.

For free time we also played on the super Llangedwyn school adventure playground.

Kids club week went really fast. It was a week of glorious sunshine. Followed on by sports night. Sports night photo`s are on the blog above.

Crumble Week & Water Fight Week Wk 34

This week at kids club we made some Crumble ( apple & cherry ) The children really enjoyed making the crumble, they all really well.

We also coloured in but mainly spent our time outside with the weather being so nice. The finarly of the week was the water fight. The photographs are on the blog above. The children, school staff and parents had a great time soaking each other.

Below is a recipe for crumble we cheated and made it with tinned apple and cherry due to time limits. Maybe you could try this recipe with your children.

Apple Crumble Recipe

Apple crumble is not as hard to master as it looks. We take you through the process with step by step pictures. Instead of apples, other fruit (or canned fillings) can be used. Rhubarb, gooseberry or cherry are very good.

INGREDIENTSThe ingredients below will make a medium sized apple crumble, enough for four people.
Ingredients

Butter or cooking margarine ***
4 ounces (4 oz)
120 grams
Self-raising flour
5 ounces (5 oz)
150 grams
The picture above shows Flora margarine which is fine for spreading. But from experience after taking the picture I've discovered that butter or a cooking margarine, such as Stork, gives a much more 'crumbly' crumble.
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS3/4 teaspoon cinnamon1/2 cup rolled oats or Corn Flakes (most breakfast cereals will do)
COOKING EQUIPMENT1 Medium-sized oven-proof dishScalesFork
Notes for the Cook!When apples are peeled and especially when sliced, their attractive white flesh will very quickly turn a 'not-so-attractive' brownish color. This makes absolutely no difference to the taste, but 'looks' are important. The method described below therefore leaves the peeling and cutting of the apples to the last minute.
There is one 'trick' described at the end to make the crumble surface look really brown and nice, but please do keep an eye on the timing. A brown crumbly topping looks absolutely delicious, but a black and burnt top is not so good.
MethodTurn your oven on now so that it's pre-heated ready to cook later on! Heat settings are 180C / 350F / Gas Mark 5.

Now, make the 'crumble' mixture. I've tried this with my hands, an electric blender and a fork. I think a fork is best but the experts prefer hands!
Mix the butter / margarine with the flour in a dry bowl using a fork until you have a texture like breadcrumbs. It's not important that every single bit is like breadcrumbs, but try and get most of it like that. This will take about three minutes. If you are adding the optional ingredients of oatmeal or Corn Flakes, do it now. Mix it all in well.

Add 4 (not all the 6) ounces of sugar to the mixture and mix it all together with the fork. This will tend to make the mixture even more like breadcrumbs. That's your crumble mixture made and ready.

Peel the apples and cut each one into four parts. Cut out the core from each of the sections (see picture on the left).
Slice the apple quarters - no need to slice them too thinly, about six slices per quarter section of apple will do just fine.

Put the apple slices into the casserole dish. If you are adding the optional cinnamon, do it now. Make sure it is sprinkled evenly throughout the apples. Sprinkle the remaining 2 ounces of sugar evenly over the apples.
Now, evenly spread the 'crumble' mixture over the sugared apples (see picture on the right).
Put this into the middle of your pre-heated oven at 180C / 350F / Gas Mark 5 for 40 minutes.
One trick you can use now is to put the apple crumble under a hot grill for about 30 to 45 seconds to 'brown' the crumble topping. Keep a good eye on it though because 30 seconds too much can result in a very black crumble topping!

When the crumble is cooked, leave it to cool for at least 15 minutes.
Beware, apple crumble can stay really hot for an hour or so.
Serve hot or cold with ice cream, cream or custard.

If there is any apple crumble left over, cover the dish with tin foil and it will keep in the fridge for a couple of days.

Pets Week & The Cheeky Mole Wk 33

This week was an action packed week which went very quickly. The boys played football as usual and the girls horses. The boys did some football exercises`s and then practiced penalty`s.

We also had another practice at the races getting ready for the school sports night which will be soon.

Inside activities this week included a cooking exercise in which the children made biscuits of all shapes and sizes. They also played on the computers and did some colouring in.

They have been very keen on playing out side and with the weather being nice we took the opportunity to let them run round in the fresh air.

Thursday the school had pet sharing assembly. There were many animals in attendance.

Some of the children were photographed by the Shropshire Star and Advertiser newspapers. The photographs will be out Friday 19th or Saturday 20th for the Shropshire Star or 25th for the Advertiser.

The animals in attendance consisted of dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, lizards and our pet rat Bart.

The kids had a lovely time.

We also went of a walk down to the Mill this week.

Another little un expected guest arrived at kids club this week. The children found a little mole in the middle of there football pitch. ( pictured above ) He was gorgeous it was nice to see the little creature close up. Although it was very unusual seeing one out of its burrow like this.

We had a good look at him making sure he was no injured. He was moving around very well so we put him near the hedge do he could burrow underground again.

This week to start with was quite. KS2 had gone away for a few days on the pro active adventure. It was quite and peaceful in kids Club But Then they came back !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noise again greeted us as the the older children arrived back at school, all excited about the adventure they had just been on. They had been gorge walking, canoeing, rock climbing, high ropes, orienteering, team games, and BMXing. The children had visited Tyn Dwr Llangollen for link click here http://www.uclan.ac.uk/ . We all had a good chat about what they had been doing during there visit.

This week was a bit of a mix with some children being away. Activities we did this week were computers, drawing and playing games.

We spend some of the time outdoors. The boys are still in training for there forth coming football tournament. They jogged around the playing field with Sarah and I plus the smaller children following closely behind. 3 times around is = to 1 mile I am told ???. The boys also did footballer exercises and press ups. They then practiced there header skills.

Most of the girls are interested in horses so this week we had a riding lesson minus the horses. The girls ran round pretending they wee on a horse.I taught them some riding skill. They role played being in a riding school on ponies. They changed the rein, trotted, cantered around and took it in turns to jump there pretend ponies over a make believe jump ( we used a football ).

They then coloured in pony pictures and looked up horse information on the Internet. Hopefully next week we will have created a horse picture on our kids club wall space/

Contacting Kids Club For Child Care

Due to us having limited spaces in kids club with only two staff present, Sarah and I would be grateful if all parents could contact us if they would like their child to stay at Kids Club for a session during the week. Most parents give us a weeks notice to ensure they have a place for their child. We always have spaces for the children who stay on a regular basis.

There is a maximum of 16 places allowed at one time in the club with only two members of staff present, from September I have estimated we will have a least 14 at one time leaving only 2 emergency places left.

If I am aware of numbers and children that will be staying it will help a great deal.

1/ If there are more children expected I can appoint an extra member of staff for that night.

2/ If we are aware of which children are staying the activities can be organised to included there likes and dislike. For example some children enjoy different activities than others.

I would be grateful if you could telephone direct if you would like your child / children to attend Kids Club, even a few hours notice is better than no notice at all emergency provision will always be provided.

Football Practice & Paper Doll Wk 31

This week went very quickly. It was quite sunny so we played outside for some time.

The boys are entered into a tournament soon so they practiced there football skills. I was the referee for part of the time.

Another game we played this week was ` Wink Murder ` this was requested by some of the girls. The chosen inspector has to hide there eyes whilst a murderer is chosen by the group sitting in the circle. The inspector has to then find out who the murderer is a when the chosen murderer wink at you you have to fall down dead.

We also played charades this week another popular game the children enjoy.

Inside activities this week included computer games and looking up information.

The younger girls had a doll activity to complete. They had to cut around paper doll and outfits and make pictures with them. This is a good activity to help develop the children`s cutting skills with scissors and fine motor skills. They really enjoy activity's like this.

We also held a group discussion in which everyone had a turn telling us what they did during there half term week.

This week it was rather rainy at kids club. We played out for a short while before coming in and settling down to do some colouring.

The girls enjoyed colouring some butterfly`s and other bugs to put on display on the wall.

We also played games as usual the marble run, operation, guess who and connect four.

We also had a computer day. Here the children look up information and some play on the on line games.

Eventually the weather broke on the last day. We decided to stay outside. The children wanted to play with the PE items. Some set up a obstacle course. Once set up we had races. The obstacle races included throw the bean bag into the hoop, hop onto the hoops, balance the egg on the spoon and walk through the figure of eight markers. The children really enjoy these races.

Skipping is another popular activity along with the boys beloved football.

For a treat at the end of the week we also made bowls of pasta with a range of toppings.

Another activity this week was a competition. The children had to write a poem about vegetables. It is organised and run by The Toby Carvery restaurants and the winner receives a range of gardening tools for there school.

It was a busy week this week we had a lot of children. Kids Club is proving a very popular club. Sorry but I forgot the camera again this week.

Obstacle Course & Herbie Wk 29

This week at Kids club we had just one sunny day ?? Where`s the sunshine. First session we stayed outside for most of it. Firstly we set up obstacle courses out of objects from the school PE collection.

We had races jumping through hoops, running in and out of markers up and down the running lanes. The children created relay races working in teams. They also had to bat the ball through a hoop to finish one race.

We also practiced for sports night. The children had sack races, egg and spoon races and running races. They had a great time. We also had a picnic tea outside in the sunshine of toast and crackers with a range of toppings.

On one of the days the children were late back as they had been on a trip out.

As we expected the children came back fairly tired. We settled them down for evening at the flicks. The children voted to watch Herbie.

We put the film on and we then made them toast.

Also this week we coloured in pictures some children draw Herbie. They love the little VW.

Other things we did this week was playing outside and the usual box games such as connect four and who`s who. The marble run is also another popular game the children like to play.

Pretty Pictures + Cards For Clare Wk 28

This week the younger children enjoyed art work. Some of the older children chose to help the little ones so well done to them. They all made glittery pictures to take home to mum and most of them made birthday cards for a young girl called Clare. Clare is a very arty young lady who at times has helped out in kids club in the past and worked with the children doing art. Clare was 24 yrs old this week so the children made her cards and pictures. Clare as a teen attended Newtown Collage some years ago. It is lovely living and working in such a wonderful place where everyone helps each other. The children are fantastic full of confidence and great to work with.

Our school is defiantly the BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD without a doubt.

The Great Bug Hunt In May Week 28

This week we went on a bug hunt. The sheet were made up by the children using the internet and word coping and pasting on to a spead sheet.

They did a fantastic job.

We then went outside each child had a clip board and pencil to fill in what they found. They had a great time, we explored the playground and part of the field. We have different children attending the club on different days so we intend to do this activity again so they dont miss out, with it proving so popular.

Games Outside Week 27

This week we attended the 2ND part of our course in First Aid. It was a very interesting course and we all enjoyed it. I am please to say we are all now qualified first aiders.

The sun was out this week so we played outside a lot. Sorry everyone I forgot to take the camera in.

The children had free play for some of the time they were all very bubbly this week.

We also played outdoor games such as Simon says and the boat game.

The boat game is great fun and all the children love it. They climb the rigging, run to different parts of the ship, man the lifeboats, salute the captain when he comes aboard and also pretend to be submarines. We played this game on the play ground and on the tarmac.

We had the usual snack times with the children all keen to come outside again afterwards.

Another great week at Kids Club the week went far to fast.

I am also please that we have new members that are now coming to the club which is proving very popular with both parents and children.

Welcome Back To School Wk 26

After a hectic holiday, we came back to school to a hectic week. Sarah and I attended the first part of a training course to gain a qualification in First aid. I have done the course previously a few years ago it is surprising how much the techniques change over time.

This week at kids club was a busy week. The sun was out so we spent a lot of time outside. We played games in the field including `Your Majesty`

In this game a chosen person turns away from the others and another chooses a person to put on a funny voice the person with his / her back to us has to guess who said the words ` good evening your majesty ` All the children seem to enjoy this game no matter what age they are.

The children also had a lot of physical activity playing different ball games. I also join in with the children to encourage active play.

Inside this week we learnt a little about St George with it being St Georges day. We went on the computers. The children also enjoyed colouring in pictures.

This week we also held a group discussion. I like to hear the children's views asking them what activities the would like to do and also discussing the ideas I have for activities they may or may not enjoy.

I had a few idea`s I wanted to talk to the children about which went down very well. I have asked Mr Parkinson for his help in finding a safe way were we can put the children in contact with pen pals from oversea`s. After looking into it over the Internet I wasn't happy or confident at this being a totally safe way therefore I asked Mr Parkinson to help. I will keep you informed of our progress with this activity. I think the children will benefit from being in contact with children from different country`s and of different cultures.

We also talked about snail surveys which I am looking into, the open university are at present doing a survey on the evolution of snails. This is a project the children were keen to get involved with. Also over the summer term we intend to get the children motivated with a lot of out door activity making the most of the weather. The children would much rather be outside at this time of the year.

The week went very quick. Thursday with it being the PTA meeting we spent the session outside. Firstly having fruit and juice on the decking before going into the field. A lot of children were in the club during this session. At tea time we laid out picnic blankets on the grass, some of the older children relayed the toast, plates, spreads and drinks from the kitchen. The children then settled down for tea. Slices of toast or crackers with a choice of spreads, along with a drink of squash. They really enjoyed the tea party all helping each other.

We are all look forward to the coming weeks at Kids Club.

Easter Bunny Visits Llangedwyn Wk 25

WHAT A WEEK

The weather was nice this week, so by popular request we played on the field. The children enjoyed the open space running around and playing games. A group of young girls sat in a circle whilst we had a nail painting afternoon. Jackie brought in a nail kit that was not wanted. So Thanks Jackie.

A few of the girls had there nails painted and decorated with small jewels. The kit also included butterfly`s and stars. This activity was very popular with the girls.

Inside activity's this week again concentrated on Easter. We had related colouring pictures, crosswords, word searches and I made a bunny rabbit template so the children could create bunny rabbit masks. The older children like to work on topics on the computers.

The Children helped create the Easter egg hunt. The last kids club of the term was very busy. We had a lot of children for the Easter Egg Hunt.

Billy came in to help today. We all got to school a little earlier to set up the hunt. Firstly we took our register and gathered on the playing field for juice and fruit.

A young writer had written out a little speech she wanted to read out. She created the speech by herself the day before. Here is the speech.
I welcome you all here today. To our grand Easter egg hunt. There is a prize for the person who helps the little ones the most. We have hidden many clue`s within the play ground so you can win a prize good luck and have FUN.

The prize winners were amongest the ones who had worked hard helping to set the event up I was impressed as the girls had written some of the clues out themselves for the little ones.

I then told the children there was a prize bunny hidden in the field somewhere. The finder would win a prize. The children ran off looking everywhere. I hid it well it took them a while to find it. The winner won the big egg.

Next the older children were put into pairs with the younger children. They were given a clue to start there hunt. The older children helped the little ones to read the clue`s but allowed them to solve them themselves. This they did well till the last clue lead them to their egg.

The older children went next, they had more and harder clues to solve the game went well and was very popular with all the children.

After the hunt they all settled on the decking for pasta with a choice of toppings. The sat eating there tea before playing for the rest of the session.

We all had a wonderful time including us gown ups. The children left with a Easter egg treat.

Run Up To Easter Wk 24

Another busy week at kids club. Sarah and I never stopped. This week we started Easter theme a little early but as we break up next week we though we would get a head start.

The children played outside, the usual football and tag games. the girls like to skip and play prancing ponies.

Billy game in for a while on Thursday afternoon to host a football game in the field with the boys. Once he was out of energy, he headed home. .

Some of the children were intrigued with the weather as it looked quiet Stormy on the hills around the playing field. We had a long talk about twisters and other weather patterns.

Once inside we carried on with our Easter projects, we made some lovely things for Llangedwyn Church. We also made some things for our spring colleague on the wall at school.

We had the usual toast and crackers.

Yet another busy week at kids club.

Mothers Day Week Wk 23

What a lovely sunny week. We spent much of time outside with the weather being so nice. The children had free play. Other outside activities included us setting up an assault course on the adventure playground. This proved to be a popular activity with all the children joining in even the little ones.
We also played Charades outside and Simon says.
Indoor activities included computers, games and an activity on the creative table. We made boxes, cards and hanging love hearts for mothers day. Also the children made cookies. Taking the cookies home we added some small Easter eggs.
With it being St Patrick`s week we also had Leprechaun's to colour in. We also did a spot of story telling with the smaller children which they really enjoyed.
It was a fun week which virtually took us to maximum children were allowed on two days . The club is proving very popular.
No photo`s this week as I forgot the camera as Aaron was poorly and was sent home from school after being sick. Luckily Billy was on annual leave so Billy looked after the sick bucket whilst I went to Kids Club.
